About

Hello, my name is Alisha Jones and I am an illustrator-in-training.  This section is about me and the
purpose of my blog.

I'm 26 years old and I live in Utah.  I go to college at Utah Valley University.  The reason for this blog?  I wanted to share my experiences and advice with other aspiring artists, hopefully what I have learned and sweated for can inspire others on the hard journey toward artistry.

THE BEGINNING

It all began when I was a child (Ahhahahaha . . . not really).  When I was in 4th grade (nine years old roughly) there was a kid in my class that drew the most awesome dragons and I thought it was the coolest thing ever.  I didn't really do anything about it until middle school (or jr. high for some of you), where I doodled instead of paying attention to my classes.

High school I took art every semester, but I thought my path was going to go in a different direction.

I moved to Cedar City and went to school at Southern Utah University where I studied creative writing.  When I saw that I had to take literary classes and write research papers I quickly switched to an art major:  graphic design.

Hmmm, except they didn't have exactly what I wanted.  I thought I wanted to go into animation (I love me some animation), so I transferred up to Utah Valley University where they had everything I ever wanted.

Silly me, I thought I had declared myself an animation major, but had accidently clicked the Illustration section.  Before I knew it I was taking illustration classes and I loved it.

After all those years of waffling around and changing majors, I decided to stick with what I had accidently picked.  It's been hard, and a lot of it has sucked . . . but I absolutely would not change it.

THE REASON

I don't have "natural talent" in the art area, I haven't been doing this since I was a tyke, so I've had a few struggles.

I want to share these struggles and solutions and anything else that comes to my mind with others who also feel like the cards are slightly stacked against them (which should be everyone).
